Project #1 composition summary

For this project, we were tasked with creating a video recalling an event that occurred to someone besides ourselves; I chose to recall how my maternal grandfather’s brother, serving as a bombardier during WWII, was shot down over Austria.  I decided to convey the story through the use of images, some of my relative, and the use of captions to tell to the viewer what happened.  I had the option of using my voice to narrate the story instead, but at the time I was finishing up a recent bout of allergies; my voice was most likely fine at that point, but I doubt that it would’ve aided the effect I was trying to convey in any way, and, admittedly, I was rather pressed for time, and that would’ve been too much to do in the limited amount I had at my disposal.

Again, I chose to use captions to convey the events of my story because I believed that my personal voice was inadequate for the effect I wished to convey, and I chose to use a ‘slideshow’ of images to convey the events because that is all that I had of my relative (there were no videos that I could use; personal video recorders were very hard to come by at that time, especially aboard a B-24).  After that, the video is fairly straight-forward: images and captions are placed chronologically and, sometimes, emphatically, depending upon the chosen background music.  The only ‘special audience’ that I had in mind during production was my family, particularly my maternal side, as they would most likely have the most interest in this subject; after that, I made a video, and will promptly await the reaction of the viewers.
